Eating Dumplings with TaiwaneseAmerican.org

I sat down with HoChie Tsai and Anna Wu from TaiwaneseAmerican.org a couple of weeks ago to talk about Asian American activism & Thick Dumpling Skin, over, what else? Dumplings (the site also did a spotlight on my lovely partner, Lynn, back in March)! In the interview, we talked briefly about activism before being distracted by the amazing food at Shan Dong in Oakland, so I will elaborate my thoughts here:

Many people tend to think of our generation as a generation of apathetic beings, but I don’t think that’s true. I’d like to think that we are simply a generation that’s utilizing different tactics to challenge the norm, rather than fuming in our own anger. Therefore, we might seem less militant, but we “do.” If something doesn’t seem right, we think about how we, as individuals, can fix the problem. I’d like to think that all Asian Americans will get to a point where they feel empowered to tackle the problems that they’re struggling with, whether it’s by volunteering for a cause they care about, put their money where their mouth is and donate, or by doing something more creative. What do you think?

Lynn’s VisualizAsian Interview

Hey everyone!

I’m still a bit overwhelmed by last night’s interview.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to VisualizAsian and everyone who took the time to listen and write in their questions.  I was surprised at how meaningful and emotional the conversation turned out to be - it shows just how many people in our community need a resource like Thick Dumpling Skin.  Please keep reading, spreading the word, and contributing - hopefully we can reach more and more people who need to be talking about this subject.
